EVOCATIVE ANNOUNCES NEW MANAGED STORAGE OFFERING
WITH LIVE REPLICATION TO SIMPLIFY DISASTER RECOVERY
New Service Gives Small and Mid-sized Businesses Access to Enterprise-class
Technology without Heavy Capital Investment or Learning Curve
Emeryville, CA (January 31, 2008) - Evocative, Inc., a San Francisco Bay Area-based colocation and managed services provider, announces the impending availability of managed storage for its customers at its Emeryville Data Center (at EmeryTech), and to customers colocated with providers at the 200 Paul Avenue carrier hotel in San Francisco.
“We’ve installed SAN equipment both here in Emeryville and at 200 Paul. Using our multi-gigabit private network between the two sites, we can replicate storage between these top-tier facilities,” says Sean Holzknecht, Evocative’s VP of Operations. “Not only can we offer multi-terabyte storage that can be turned up or grown on short notice, but that storage can be replicated in a remote data center as part of a disaster mitigation and recovery plan. Because it’s a managed service, we take care of all of the hardware, software, and management of the SANs and replication. It’s a huge pain-reliever for our customers—they order it, install a driver, and it’s available.”
Small and mid-sized businesses can face a high hurdle when regulatory compliance and disaster recovery mandates dramatically increase their storage needs and force them to duplicate infrastructure. The equipment costs are high initially, and often have high ongoing maintenance costs and require specialized staff training. Duplicating infrastructure in multiple sites then compounds these costs. Evocative’s managed service removes the bulk of these costs and simplifies the implementation by building on economies of scale that are difficult for smaller businesses to achieve individually.
The service is currently in beta test and is expected to be launched on March 10, 2008. Customers at Evocative’s Emeryville Data Center will access the service through a dedicated multi-gigabyte storage network. Customers at 200 Paul Avenue can cross-connect to Evocative’s storage network through the site’s third-floor “Meet Me Room.”
“This service is part of a growing fabric of services we’re offering. We’re also investing heavily in other areas of our infrastructure, modernizing systems throughout our facilities, increasing capacity, and exploiting new technologies and products that will help us reduce energy consumption without compromising redundancy, reliability, or service levels,” says Patrick Rigney, Evocative’s CEO. “Our target customers are small and mid-sized businesses who are future-proofing their infrastructure by coming to us. These investments demonstrate our commitment to providing them all of the technical advantages that larger businesses routinely use, at a cost they can easily digest. We level the playing field for them. It’s been our mantra for 12 years now.”
